Sis in the City
New York, New York
October 10-12, 2003

For three days in October 2003, the Sigma Delta Phi U.S. East Coast Chapter alumnae in New York City will play hostess to an unprecedented event which we have dubbed SIS IN THE CITY 2003.

We will celebrate with sisters and their loved ones, the 70 years of sisterhood with about 70 sisters attending, mostly from the U.S. but with representatives from Canada, France and the Philippines. Among the attendees to the reunion are two sisters who are off-springs of Batch ’33 members namely Bee L. Monzon, daughter of the only living founder, Gloria Lucero Monzon and Carol de la Paz-Zialcita, daughter of Sarah Tempongco-De la Paz; second generation sisters, 10 past grand archons and sisters who have been sorority members for the last 55,50,40, etc. years.

Renewing ties is the main theme of the celebration. Spearheading the event is President Ma. Luisa Allado-Reformina ’65. She has about twelve sisters in the Core Committee heading different activities. The celebration starts with the opening of an art exhibit featuring our very own, Ofelia Gelvezon-Tequi ‘59’s work entitled “Still Life and Prints.” The next day, we will listen to two talks relevant to women – one is entitled “Women & Investing” by Violeta Balmaceda-Salud ’64 and the other is entitled, “Women’s Health Issues” by Patricia Malabuyo-Ilagan ’85. The day activities also include a walk down memory lane featuring photos from albums of different sisters directed and presented by Lydia Benitez-Brown ’71. Surprise numbers will be featured at the day session from sisters who have been selected to show their “hidden talents”. The day activities conclude with an open forum and discussion on the next reunion.

In the evening, we have the Dinner-Dance where family members and guests of sisters will witness the showcase of talents by Sigma Deltans from different regions. After dancing the night away, sisters can sleep in and join the following day’s brunch at 11 AM which caps the whole affair.

Preparations are taking place with excitement and enthusiasm in New York City. This event will reconfirm once again that the Sigma Delta Phi Sorority Lives and will continue to Live!
