10 Ways to Spot a Sigma Deltan |
|
|
|
|
|
She can shrug from the bottle,
Lift her pinky to a teacup,
or tilt a champagne flute,
with equal aplomb.
She rushes in, but she's no fool.
She's a survivor:
of puberty, of heartache,
of career moves, of breast cancer, of life.
Hers is the noisiest table in the restaurant.
She's as stubborn as a mule
whether she's right or wrong,
but then again, she is always right.
She can spot your insecurities
with maddening accuracy
and then win you over
by revealing she shares them.
She gets down and dirty
with every hair in place.
Her bite is so much worse than her bark.
The most popular
adjective for her is taray,
even when she is Juliet to your Romeo,
or Damon to your Pythias. Or Sisyphus.
She's far from
perfect and she knows it, but
that doesn't stop her
from acting like she is.
Ah, the Sigma Deltan.
All woman, and then some.

Alumnae Pay Tribute to Kalaw – Ledesma\
The Alumnae Association will honor Purita Kalaw Ledesma ’33 with a special tribute on December 3. this will be the major highlights of the 4th Quarters Members Meeting at Gabaldon Room of the Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan.
Sis Pura is the designer of the Sigma Delta Phi logo and pin, the emblem of the Sorority and sisterhood, from our founding year to the present.
The tribute will also encompass her invaluable contributions to Philippine visual arts as a patron of Filipino artists and as a founding member of the Arts Association of the Philippines. She is considered as the “epitome of the Filipino woman of the humanities” in the Philippine artistic and cultural community.
Sis Pura was a Mariang Maya awardee for arts development in 1993. she was also a recipient of the distinguished Cultural Center of the Philippines’ “Patron of Philippine Arts” award, given to only two Philippine art patrons to date (the first was Dr. Alejandro Roces, 2003 National Artist for Literature).
The National Museum also paid tribute to Sis Pura, now in her nineties, some three years ago, and by the UP College of Fine Arts shortly thereafter, for her upliftment of Filipino artist and endeavors on the development of Philippine visual arts.
The formal programmed for the 4th Quarter Members Meeting will include:
SDPAA business agenda composed of brief reports of the Board chair and Treasurer for year-end 2004;
Honor rites for batch ’54 golden jubilarians;
Testimonial for sister-achievers who received national or sectoral awards and/or honors in 2004, e.g., Justice Leonor Luciano Ines ’38, Jindra Linda Demeterio ’56, Ces Orena Drilon ’80, Winnie Collas Monsod ’56, and Ambassador-designate Lilia Bautista ’52; and
The special tribute to Purita Kalaw Ledesma.
There will be a special video presentation and SDPAA honor rites for Sis Pura that will culminate into a ceremonial bonding of roses by all sister-attendees.
The Special Concerns Committee, co-chaired by Lena Lubi ’66 and Ida Firme Vargas ’73, is in-charge of the special tribute for Sis Pura and the brief documentary feature.
The Membership/Fellowship and Special Projects Committees are the organizing and lead committees for the rest of the program and evening activities.
In keeping with the times, the 4th Quarter Members Meeting will also be an austere Christmas fellowship. Fun-filled activities will follow the formal programmed.
Door and special prizes are being solicited by Membership/Fellowship Committee Chair Ligaya Lualhati Tankeh, together with various batch representatives.
The fourth quarter Members Meeting will be the last SDPAA membership activity for the year.
